A buddy of mine was over the other night and we both lit up our pipes and I couldn't help but notice that every draw he took was a heavy draw that produced tons of smoke. On the other hand my draw is more like a sip and produces just above a whisper of smoke.

Thats the way Ive allways smoked my pipes and my buddy is just the opposite. He claims that he doesnt get bit and that he's not smoking hot, but I find this hard to believe.

Just wondering what kinda of smoker you guys are? A cloud or whisper smoker?

    Cloud whisperer.

Was totally cloud until my cobs trained me to whisper more. I mostly whisper, but will still cloud it up on occasion.

When I am sitting down in my smoking chair, I take small draws constantly, producing a very whispy smoke.

I used to be a cloud smoker...but my tastebuds put an end to that. I am all about keeping a super cool, slow sip...

I am both. On lighting and relighting I enjoy a nice cloud which gets the toby burning well and has a nice strong flavor. Then I settle into more of a whisper. I enjoy the different flavor characteristics that both have to offer.

Cloud to a whisper....actually since K am usually smoking Dark Flake I have learned to handle it.

When I start up a bowl I am huffing away and as it heats up I slow down to a mild whisper.

Other tobaccos are whisperers....but I like to abuse my Dark Flake.

I've evolved into a whisper smoker. So much so it tends to die right out on occasion.

I remember when I just wanted to exhaust a bowl of tobacco in 10 minutes. Just couldn't get enough per draw. I learned to slow down dramatically; the flavors then became much more intense and enjoyable. I practice with a clay. When I can smoke my clay without the bowl getting too warm to touch, I know it's the right method.

I try to hit the middle ground. Most of the time when I'm just sipping and there's a whisper of smoke I'm reaching for my lighter since it goes out next puff. No biggie, relights are fine. When I hit it just right I get the flavor, no bite and a decent amount of smoke.

I started out with clouds, 30 min bowls, and a very sore tongue. Now it's 90 min bowls, wisps and a whole lot more flavor and enjoyment.
