I'm curious as to what tobacco people feel is the best, that can be had at a local pharmacy, maybe Walmart and so on. I have a friend asking what tobacco is best to start with. I've already told him a Dr. Grabow or a corn cob is a good starting point for pipes. I guess if i had to pick, captain black and borkum riff would duke it out.

I think Prince Albert and Carter Hall would be better bets.

I've had prince Albert, and it was ok. I like something that gives a better room note though. I'll have to try the carter hall now.

Second the Carter Hall. I keep a big jar full on hand just for a nice no hassle smoke. Highly recommend.

My two favorites are SWR Aro and Carter Hall. The SWR Aro leaves an excellent room note.

If you recommend him Borkum Riff, you two may be the ones duking it out. Lol
That stuff is pure napalm on the tongue.

No, I said that borkum riff is one I like. I'll have to give the carter hall a try, seems like people really like it.

Carter Hall, Sir Walter Raleigh, or Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic - three sure bets.

Of course, on-line is a great option. If you have misgivings about using credit cards for discretionary spending, like I do, on-line vendors like Mars Cigars and Cup O Joe's will let you order on-line and mail them payment in the form of a money order . They have great selections and prices, and the ability to pay by money order is why I favor these two vendors. If you go the on-line route, a whole new world/level of pipe smoking presents itself.

SWR is now on my "must have list" as is Carter Hall. I've only see these brands in the larger tins around here though. Can these be had in pouches? I believe I've seen SWR in pouches on some site that i can't recall now.

Carter Hall...... very mild, I can't really find anything negative about it.

They are both available in pouches that come in a small box ... many food stores and rx store have them . They are online at some etailers as well . WVsmokeshop has some and others

SWR Aro, Middleton's Cherry, and Granger are my 3 favorite OTC blends, all 3 have pretty good room notes (Granger is questionable, but goes away really quickly regardless).

Ah, Granger. The label is often admired, the tobacco seldom tried. It's on my ever-growing list.

    Smoke in good health,
    WK
