For someone. I picked up a 2010 Dunhill not long ago. It is very gently used. It sat in a pipeshop for two years and then was "purchased" by the guy that runs the place (*a good friend of mine). He kept it for a couple months, smoked it handful of times, and gave it to me for some restoration work. So now I have it. It's probably the closest I'll ever come to owning a new Dunhill. And it occurs to me that this pipe is someone's birth year pipe. Someone I don't know. And maybe never will know. To them, it'll just be THEIRS. It will be their birthyear Dunhill, found in miraculously good shape for such an old pipe, and a damn fine smoker to boot. I imagine how happy they'll be when they find it, how much they'll enjoy those first few bowls, and how much time they'll spend with the pipe learning to appreciate it. And that's pretty cool. I'm the old dead guy this time. Cheers.
