Just a reminder of who has participated including scottly and gary
Sweeet! I'll put together some samples today. Can I get some ideas as to likes/dislikes or untried tobies? More importantly, stuff you've already tried!
Ming.....oh boy hold on to your hats, folks.
okay, searched for Mington posts in the Now Smoking thread and can see that I can eliminate a couple tobys I was thinking I'd send to the next up, but he's tried many, so I'll have to punt a bit. Will update when they hit the post office.
The samples are in the mailbox. Hopefully we can enjoy watching Mington smoke himself blind this weekend!
Didn't he already have a go?
Maybe I should 'step up' again.
Okay, I see he hasn't been through
the gauntlet yet. Carry on!
Here I is!
Guess I am up next. SWEET!
Just waiting on Gary's package. Hopefully by Friday or Saturday latest.
Glad i have Monday off too.
Hmmmm...maybe I can document it and make Youtube videos as I spark those babies up for the 1st time. heh
That would be awesome, please sir - make it happen.
Not if you use the "oil pulling" technique.
Jussto, Scottly, or anyone....

Thanks Gary. Did Rewster have any or anyone else missed? (He is shown last on the list)
Rewster reviewed the tobacco's I sent, and sent out the samples that Gary reviewed.
Scottly sent the samples I reviewed.
I reviewed Rew's stuff.
Ohhh...I see now. I am slow sometimes.
Guess what's in the house ladies and gentlemen? Gary's package has arrived! Time to hunker down for the evening and get ready for review #1.
This is so cool, but.....
My review (since I never done one before) will not come close to anything you boys have done, but I will do the best I can.
Stay tuned in a short bit for review #1.
And awayyyyyyyy we gooooooo...
I am going to try to do at least 1 (YouTube) video review if not more. I didn't have time tonight to dig up my webcam, set it up, test, etc. I have a 3 day weekend and lots of time in the next 3 days, so stay tuned!
Stuck my nose in the bag of tobacco #1. Smelled good. By smell it seems like a lat blend. (mmmmm....lat!) I "think" I smell either oriental and/or perique. The baggie smelled slightly like a spicy ketchup.
Pouring it out on a piece of paper, this ribbon cut has a few different colors, but lots of black. (Lat?)
The pipe I chose for this one is my new Sas that I got from the Secret Santa that I have dedicated to Lats. I sure hope this is a Lat indeed! heh
I let it sit out and dry for about a half hour (as i watched Gary's 100 year old tin opening videos)
I decided to do this in style and also get the nerves out. I poured myself a glass of my newest scotch; Balvanie Carribean Cask 14 years old. I poured it in 1 of my MacAllan glasses. (Is that a crime or blasphemy? I am sure Snake will let me know. heh)
The room note of this is very nice and again Lat-like. As I observed by smell; I think there are either Orientals and\or Periques in there. Totally going to feel foolish if I am way off base.
*Watch...I get told this is really a cherry aro. Boy will i feel stupid. lol
I like the strength of this one. It is medium to full IMO. I like heavier\stronger tobaccos.
The Sas bowl is slightly on the smaller side and I probably could have had this smoked in a half hour, but with a few short interruptions, it took me about 45 minutes to finish it. I am happy that there is at least another bowls worth, so I can try it again later in a different pipe.
If you want me to try to rate this on a 1-100 scale, let me know and I will. I usually use the TR 4 star review system myself but use 1/2 stars.
I really liked this one and easily give it a 3 and maybe even a 3.5.
I could smoke this one every day.
You did good Gary...thank you!
I could never guess in a million years what it is, especially because I don't think I ever had this one before...I think.
Soooo...what is it?
How did I do?
Do I need to add more details? Do anything different?
Again this was my 1st stab at any type of review, so I am a rookie and also have only been smoking the pipe for about a year and a half.
I will add more pictures and again possibly a video or 2 as I go along.
Not sure, but I might go for sample #2 shortly. I am stoked and not done smoking yet for the evening.
Just caught up readibg this thread .... great job guys !
Sounds like a perfectly fine review to me, Ming. Very nicely done.
GL Pease Samarra - described by GL himself at:
Edit to add: the sample of this was small because I was running very low on this. I bought a tin a few weeks ago and loved it from the first bowl. Never posted the name here nor added it to my online cellar knowing I'd send it to the next reviewer. This is easily in my top 10 or even top 5 tobys and have been smoking it often! Glad you liked it.
