Does anyone have experience with Bur/Per?

Are there any of these (burley & perique)blends on the market?

McCl "Gray Havens" is an Excellent Bur-Per (yes, it does have some nice Va in ther to round it out and give depth). Superb smoke!

C+D Burley Flake #3, very punchy.

McClelland Grey Havens, as mentioned by Puff, is nice.

Kingfisher from Butera if you can find it.

Not "perique" officially, but Mac Baren Cavendish is a fermented dark punchy leaf (ringin' any bells here?) and Roll Cake is full of it.

Reiner Long Golden Flake is another great one, although like Grey Havens, it too has Va-Bur-Per.

Have you considered coming up with your own Bur-Per?

Yes, I have some perique, and plenty of PA and CH. I also have some straight Virginia.

there's a not-very-well-known company called uhle, and its either their blend 44 or something with the word bishop in it, and its one of the best straight burleys i've ever had, nice cool burning cube cut, not remotely bitey for a burley. toss in some blending perique and you'd be set.

Hearth & Home LJ Heart Burley, I ordered two oz. of this to try and have been enjoying it quite a bit. It is Bur/Va/Per, though that shouldn't prevent you from trying this one.

C&D's Old Joe Krantz (or OJK as it is affectionately known) will always be king of the BuPers for me.

Well, today I tried a 75% CH & 25% Perique. Yes, that is probably too much, but I wanted to make sure I tasted it. I admit it was too strong a smoke, for me. I'm also not sure I benefited from this, other than perhaps confirming that I should never do this again! :startle:

I may also not be such a "burly guy" ... in more ways than one!

MacB London Burley is really good stuff! If you mix in some perique I think you'd have what you're looking for.

25% is far too much as you've noted. Perique is powerful stuff, and from what I understand even as much as 10% added is about enough for any human to tolerate. I'd recommend about 5% with the MacB.

I add perique to my blends and I can taste it with as little as about 2% (by volume).

If you want to add some perique to an OTC burley blend, I'd recommend adding it to either PA or Sugar Barrel instead of CH.
