I wasn't sure to post this in the 'off topic' section or here, but hopefully I chose right. Anyway, this will be my first year attending Burning Man as a pipe smoker and I wanted to see if you all thought it would be okay to take one of my briars (sav or bjarne) out to the burn. My main concern is the fine, fine alkaline dust. Does a week of desert sand kill a briar pipe? If not do you guys think it would be possible to clean out? I'm tempted to just get some cobs instead but I love my briars so much :P

I'd cob the hell out of it. While I don't think the fine particles would ruin a briar, it would be not fun cleaning one afterwards. If the damage is too much, ditch the cob and pat yourself on the back for not ruining a briar.

Buy a cheaper briar and use the time from now till then getting it ready. Best of both worlds. You get to use a briar and don't have to worry about messing it up.

I agree with others and would get a cob. Burning man is on my list to do one day. Have a great time and let us know how it goes.

You're not going to be able to rest your pipes much between smokes... so if I were in your shoes, I would take my falcon with several bowls and just swap the bowl after each smoke.

Your idea of taking one forever stem and then swapping cob bowls on it should work in the same way too! :)

Yeah... Im in agreement here.... My few briars never leave the house... If I go outside, as I very often do, it's either my cobs or my MM OM Hardwoods.

Wind........lots of wind, really hard blowing desert wind in the afternoons. Unless you light up inside your vehicle or tent you'll need a torch lighter and a windcap.

Are you taking a digital camera? Computer? Cell phone?

If "yes" to any of the above, I think that you can care for a briar pipe.

A cob would add to the image of "freedom and roots" that burning man tends to portray...

'freedom and roots"? All this time I thought it was fruits, nuts and flakes. My bad.

Fruits, nuts, flakes....beautiful women, free booze and food, nice and giving people, and amazing art :)

Good call on the wind cap too, it does get quite windy out there.

If that isn't awesome and pipe related I don't know what is. Me on right, and I did not stay in a trailer for the record.
