Were Castello pipes ever made with no stem markings? No bar or diamond? I have a reg. number Castello with nothing on the stem and the gent I got it from wasn't the type who would get a replacement stem.

    Just wondering.

    Thanks.

Not that I'm aware of. Originally the white bar was for pipes heading to the European market, as Wally Frank sold his white bar pipes in the U.S. The diamond was for the U.S market. I've never heard of a Castello with no markings. Then again, Fender shipped out a bunch of guitars with no name between their Broadcaster and Telecaster switchover, so perhaps this pipe was unmarked for a reason.

I'm no authority on Castellos. Found one in the rack (could swear I had another one or two), probably purchased new in the early 70s. Has the diamond insert on the left side of the stem.
