Collected myself into a corner. Give up, branch out or persevere?

I'm trying to collect Dr Grabow Viscounts, particularly the Killarney-esque finish, but am having trouble finding more than the two I own.

Do I give up and enjoy the two I own, branch out into Grabows in the same finish that I enjoy the shape of or, is the point of a collection the effort that goes into composing it?

IMHO, you need to persevere. That's much of the fun. Collectors need to be rather obsessive. Just the way it is - don't fight it.

I think you're lucky to collect something that is tough to find. Think of the people who collect Dunhills or Castellos or Kaywoodies. They have to weed through all kinds of pipes on offer. You, on the other hand, are excited if one of your preferred pipes pops up once every 6 months.

Our forefathers who were the first to dabble with PAD would tell us to check your account balance, calculate how many pipes that buys, and warp speed ahead!

I only ask myself three questions when I am on a PAD frenzy, do I like it? Can I afford it? What am I going to smoke in it? When the answer to the first two is yes, I then go on a TAD frenzy to answer the third.

Simple then you find the viscounts as you can and the eldorados will be there to comfort you in between :)

Actually, I think the guy who is closest to the guy with the most pipe wins...

You're kidding right? There are currently 23 for sale on eBay. Even if you have to sort through trash to find one you like, you can probably have another pipe every week or two for little money. Broaden your horizons and work on your refurbishing skills.

I'm under no misapprehension that Viscounts are in short supply, but in the link you gave me exactly zero are the finish that I'm collecting, which is the problem. Thanks though.

You just have to keep watching. If there are 20 new listings a week, what you want will eventually show up.

Why not branch out? i.e. Pick a particular shape you like (i.e. The bent bulldog) and look for another one...or 10.:dkn:
