    Daughter dragged me to a garage sale tonight and I actually found some pipe stuff! The guy had to quit smoking. Unfortunately, his pipes were crap and in crappy condition. He was mostly a CH guy and had 3 tubs of it for sale, which I passed on, but I got 2 tins of Gallahers Rich Dark Honeydew (one of the classics!), a tin of Flying Dutchman and a tin of HOW Model, neither of which I've ever smoked. As a further bonus, the RDH was something he "never got around to trying" and the tins had been sitting in his study for about 15 years. Heh, heh... I sensed a bargain, particularly at the princely sum of $15 for all 4 tins. No rattle in the tins... well, at least not the RDH tins. The others sound ok, too.

    Never hurts to check those garage sales, folks! :th1:

    I think it's time I started hitting garage sales. A friend of mine called me today and invited me to go garage sale'ing' with him and his kids.. I passed but, I should have probably grabbed the Mrs. and tooled around town looking for some.

    Probably could have bought all 3 for about $15. It's gone now, though.

    Yeah, but for me that's like getting 50% off a ton of Mixture 79. It's only a good deal if you smoke it. :D

    I would give my left nad for a tin of Flying Dutchman. FD did have a tendency to bite but it tasted so good I didn't care.

    The best yard sale find I've gotten was a free mountain bike! Lucky you!

    Had a preview of a garage sale last Friday, the lady that was showing me around said "there's a box of pipes in the garage.." The garage was so packed with stuff she couldn't find it. She is supposed to call me when she does. I've got my fingers crossed, and my toes!

    At least around here, I haven't been able to find much pipe stuff at garage sales but did make 1 HUGE score once:
    An awesome Sherlock Holmes etched wall mount pipe rack AND 8 estate pipes for.....
    <drum roll please....>
    5 bucks!

    (I ran fast)
    Capt. just pointed out to me that he saw the same pipe rack brand new online for $300.00. (I forgot which online store it was, but I saw it)
    Here are a couple on Ebay that went for $195 and one that is going for $175 respectively:

    There's a new antique store not too far from my office that has a Sherlock Holmes rack for $42. It's got the same etching of Sherlock Holmes, but in reverse, and in the background is the Palace of Westminster. I guess there must have been a series of these. It had some marring on the outside, but if it's made from real wood it might sand-down and refinish nicely.
