Cornell & Diehl released the following this morning:
For the past twenty three years Craig and his partner and love of his life Patty devoted themselves to their family and his great passion, pipe tobacco and pipe smokers. Craig found pipe smokers to be among the most interesting of the people he met during his rich and full life and years of traveling the world. His genuine love of people and friendly, outgoing and larger than life personality was evident to all who came in contact with him, whether by phone or in person. On many occasions visitors would come by to visit at Cornell & Diehl and all had the same reaction, that they felt they already knew Craig and Patty from getting to know them on the phone and felt they were visiting with an old friend on their first face to face meeting.

While Craig will certainly be missed by all whose lives he touched he wouldn’t want us to be saddened by his leaving. He viewed life as a wonderful adventure, meant to be savored and experienced to the fullest and shared with others. Selfishness was a foreign concept to Craig; he gave fully and freely of himself to all he came in contact with and would wish to be remembered with a smile and a heart full of good will for others. Though our world here on earth is a bit darker, we should all be heartened by the knowledge Heaven is a bit brighter, lit by Craig’s rogueish, joyful smile and his booming voice announcing his arrival with the words, "Oh, what fun!"

A sad day for our community. While I never had the pleasure of meeting Craig in person, from our phone conversations it was obvious that he was a first class gent, with a great sense of humor and impeccable tobacco taste.
My condolences and prayers to his immediate and extended family. Heaven's got a great blender!

This is terrible news. I have spoken to both Craig and Patty on several occasions. I don't know what to say.

    May he rest in peace.

I met Craig some years back at the Chicago Pipe Show. His knowledge and tobacco recommendations were always on target. As nice a man and gentleman as one could know.

I live on Star of the East with an occasional bowl of Pirate Kake.

    Requiesacat in Pace.

Call me paranoid, but I just ordered 3 tins of Rajah's Court in case they cease production.

Never had the pleasure of meeting/speaking to him myself but I love C&D and this is a sad thing to hear.

I never had the opportunity to meet him but I feel like I know him through his blends, and I am a fan of many. He leaves a heck of a legacy in the pipe smoking community and he will be missed.

He is now in a place where there are no tobacco shortages, or regulatory laws and taxes. Great pipes are plentiful and there are plenty of good folks to share them with. He is at ease in a better place. His family is in my prayers. I hope they know the impact he has had on so many and the happiness he has brought us.
