I've been hoarding back some Firedance Flake for close to a year. I always thought the top note/tin aroma was out of this world. Well I popped one of two tins that I have and the awesome blackberry essence was nowhere to be found. I popped the other tin and same thing. Smoked several bowls and got a whole bunch of nothing. Moisture level seemed to be ideal after drying it a couple of hours and I even smoked it right out of the tin without any drying. The two tins came from two different places so I think that rules out the bad batch theory. Anybody else have this problem?

Well you know it's going to take more than two tins to fill that bowl in your avatar. :p:

So the flavor must be getting lost in there somewhere.....

SG has had more than batch issues for the last few years. OTOH Aros really don't age well....*dunno*....

I noticed that after ya put some in a jar for storage , that the topping lessens . As far as a fresh tin not having the " wham " .... what a drag . I havent opened a fresh tin in a while so I dont know .

You know, I never thought about that. Another question, could it possibly be the fact that I light it with an acetylene torch have anything to do with it?:cfsd:

Oh yeah, if the fact that my pipe is so much larger than yours is causing you to develop a "Inferiority Complex" then you need some psyciatric help. Call 1-800-YinYang, this guy is amazing.:th1:

    Oh, lawd...

When you have a deviated septum, a cleft palate, and a booger hook jammed in your nostril up to the second hairy knuckle, well...you shouldn't expect every tin to smell like roses, Rews. :)

(Yeah...off batch? Blown seal? Too high of expectations? I wouldn't rightly know...even if it were in front if me).

SG had some bad seals during packaging and many got thru their QC (if any) within the past year 2010. So did GH but the amount of chatter on the various boards reflect SG being more effected.

SG has had complaints of non-lat blends wreaking of Latakia, come to find out Navy Flake was put in St James boxes! How does that happen? I've not experienced this one.

I check all of my tins for seal strength prior to putting them into the cellar. I use one finger (index!) and tug on the lid. If it opens under one finger pressure, it goes to jar. I've had this happen more with GH tins than SG

Maybe BBF didn't get the blackcurrant topping it should to make it FDF or didnt get the amount it should have?

Hope the smoke was still good....

It's called Pipe Envy. Sigmund Freud discussed the concept a lot. Men are always comparing pipe sizes and laughing at the little ones. Men with little pipes usually compensate by talking about how little pipes are somehow "better". It's quite pathetic, actually. :D

Back to topic... I've always found Samuel Gawith tobaccos to have quality control issues, more often than most blending houses. I even have a tin of St James Flake that is not St James Flake, unless they added latakia to the mixture when I wasn't looking.

The thrust of my response is that I've come to grips with being a jerk.

Hoo boy, guess i'll be the bigger person...:)

Firedance flake is good stuff. Sorry about your tins, Rewster. Makes me wonder about mine, now. Luckily, I like BBF, so I'm not worried too much about lack of topping.
