Has anyone ever tried using a Savinelli 6mm balsa filter in a MM Cob? Do they work in place of the paper Medico filters recommended? I hate paper filters but do like the dry smoke a balsa give.

Seems to me it would be about the same.

Can't see why it wouldn't work if the filters are the same size - after all a filter is a filter,

I'd read somewhere that the balsa system works by having the smoke flow around the chip of balsa. If that's true, it would be a very different dynamic from the paper filters.

I have not done it myself, but I have heard of it. I know Marc used those balsa filters in a Grabow, if it works in a DG it should in a cob.

I've tried it, and it works great. The balsa filters don't get nearly as nasty and goopy as the paper ones, and they accomplish the same objective (but better). Fit is perfect-like they were made for each other. Worth the price of a pack of filters to try it, better if you already have some.
