ello fellow pipe smokers, so after waiting long and hard I finally recieved my flake samples through the post! I was excited and keen to try, i havnt had a chance yet to smoke them but I will load up my cob soon. one thing that baffled me, pretty much all the flakes I order smell........well weird, kinda funky and to be honest not that nice, even mac barens chocolate flake smelt like an elephant covered in extra strength marmite! is this normal for flakes?

Tobacco doesn't spoil but it does mold occasionally (this is rare).

So, if it doesn't have hair you should be fine.

Out of curiosity, what flakes did you order and what do they smell like?

And, more importantly, what the heck is marmite?

Flakes can have very strong smells. If you think flake stench is unique, you should try any uncased rope. It reeks, even when burning, and the taste is different. Very different.

Remember one good rule of thumb about pipe tobacco, the worse it smells the better it tastes. Well, usually.
