    I gave it a try. Without the stinger it was burned stronger and faster, but I'm not sure if it was better. Need more testing...

    Speaking of stingers... I went back to the second hand shop where I picked up the first couple I bought and picked up a Kaywoodie straight smooth 'Standard'. I'd left it earlier because it needed so much work, but now that I'm an old-hand at restoration ;) I picked it up and started working on it. They were all $10 so I figure I don't have too much to lose.

    The other one I bought earlier was a rough straight Carey magic inch; I have the filters now on order. It has a nice cake, but it's probably 50 years old. I'm thinking I should scrape it out and restart...
