Was just browsing ebay for estate pipes and came across this classic:

"Stem has a very nice pattern of olive yellow and black".

Err, I think you mean "Stem is heavily oxidised and is in need of a serious clean".

I have also seen a few adverts where people refer to the stem as the handle.

Anyone seen anything else like this?

I once read a great description for the stem: "The thing you put in your mouth!":bing:

It's funny - when asking for dimensions I sometimes have to say, "the thing you put in your mouth". I had a good exchange with a guy last week who was selling some Savinellis.
Me: "Does this pipe take a filter?"
    Him: "I don't know."
Me: "Can you have a look?"

Police officer: "Sir do you have any warrants?"
Driver: "I have their first album, but I'm sure as hell not giving it to you."

The only thing on the 'bay that just kills me are all the pics of pipes with bent stems that are turned 180 degrees backward.
I look and think, "Really? You don't know that the stem is in exactly the opposite position? Umm, that's not a pipe - that's a snorkel!"

And then I wonder - did they do it on purpose?
After all - they got me to look...

That's called Marketing. Just like "New and Improved" usually isn't, a stem like that "Displays a lovely Patina"

"Estate Fresh" is my favorite. Or "Lovingly Smoked".
