    very very cool. walnut 2.25 in 1942 is around 32 bucks today according to google inflation calc. I don't know what a pound of walnut cost though

    Very interesting, but what's really COOL is the story from that Nov 23rd, 1942 issue, of Marines fighting on Guadalcanal.

    The saddest part of that for me was the blurb at the end:
    "See these Middleton products in leading tobacco, drug and department stores."
    I'm just barely old enough to remember the "Men's Counter" at the stores my mother would drag me to when I was a kid, and I remember she would always find me there, staring at the cuff links, lighters, pipes, hats and all the other stuff that you don't find at Wal Mart.

    The "Men's Counter" now only exists at antique stores sadly. Sometimes it's barely a shelf with a couple tie-tacks, a few lighters a penknife or two, and occasionally some pens, straight razors or very rarely some pipes.
