I have not been able to find anything directly comparing these two flakes. I was curious if anyone here can give me an idea how they match up.

I was not a big fan of FVF and in fact, traded my tin away. I just tried BBF for the first time and liked it better. I tend to favor GH tobaccos to SG tobaccos. The nic in SG tobaccos seems to always sneak up on me whereas with GH, that doesn't happen. Not sure why.

Anyway, does Bright CR compare favorably with Best Brown? Thanks to anyone that has insight.

    My initial finding are thus:

Bright CR has some Lakeland essence,
whereas the BBF does not. BCR has
more red VAs. I have yet to set alight
the two, but will do so in about an hour.
    More to follow.

Photos of said tobies. BBF on the left.
A few side by side pics: First one is
in artificial LED soaked (read flash) light:

Next is in regular ambient light:

    Next is in photovoltaic light:

Clearly, the differences are noted best
    in the third shot. ;)

BTW, both samples will be loaded
in their separate Falcon Apple bowls,
so they will be on equal sampling
ground. Wow! I sort of feel like
dwaugh at the mo. Maybe I should
check the mirror to see if my hair
    is all askew.

Okay, NOW I'm ready to officially
test these two blends. Note, I didn't
have a no. 2 pencil, so my drafting
pencil had to act as a substitute. Also,
the picture is a little clear, and there
    aren't any k9s present, sorry.

    Here we go:

Both light with the same consistancy.

    BBF: Dark plum notes, woodsy,
and has a dark sweetness like
    molasses. Therefore, (to me) a
    richer flavour.

    Halfway through the bowl, the
    taste is consistant. More harsh
    in the snork than BCR.

BCR: Lighter on the palate, and
    snork. Essence comes through
    lightly during the smoke.

    Halfway through the smoke I
    was detecting chocolate.
BCR seems to need more drying
    time than the BBF.

    Synopsis:
BBF is a richer, more consistant
    smoke through the bowl.
    BCR has subtle changes, and
has the added value of the
    'Lakeland' essence, IMHO.

I really like the BCR, and will
have to stock up on more! I
already have over a pound of
BBF, so, for me, no more is
    needed.

I needed to cleanse my palate
    afterwards, so I'm sipping on
    some Laphroaig Triple Wood.
    :dkn:

    Hope this helped, Frank!

    peace
    dp

A final note. If dwaugh is reading this,
all references were in jest. Imitation
is the best form of flattery, they say. :D

    Good lord! My schnoz looks
    abnormally huge in that last
pic! The camera adds 10 lbs...
    to my nose! :startl:

Thanks Derrick! Amazing comparison and thank you for doing that.

Sounds like BCR is right up my alley with the hint of Lakeland and being more subtle. How would you say they compare in the nic department. I found the BBF light, but it snuck up on me a little at the end of the smoke.

SG tends to have more in the N dept.
across the board, IMHO. I think there
are subtle enough differences for these
two tobies to say that they are different
enough not to directly compare the two.

I have to agree on SG having more in the N dept. I have only tried a few of each, but every SG blend sneaks up on me while I every GH blend I have smoked, I have never had that issue.

My next order will includes some BCR. Thanks!

Cheers! Glad to do it. It was
fun, and I had the opportunity
    to really explore BCR during
the process. Hope you like the
BCR! If not, I'm willing to trade
some BBF for it. You know I
    have plenty. ;)

Funny that. I used to love BBF,
    now, I'm leaning heavily towards
    more essence-laiden blends.
