Been about 6 months since I had last picked up my pipe. Let myself get frustrated and gave up. Decided to pick it up this evening and give it another go. Jeeze what a nice and relaxing smoke I had. Gonna stick to it this time for sure.

The more you do it the better it goes. I used to stress over that stuff and how many relights I had. I decided I could care less. The whole idea was about relaxing. If I have to relight a few times then so be it..

I've taken to packing in my own way. It involves stuffing some, then stuffing some more and more until it's full. I just don't stress out if I have to re-light, which is getting less and less often the more I do it. Don't give up, there are plenty of us around who are still learning.

Flakes frustrate me when I don't rub them out. However I am determined to get proficient at just folding and stuffing. What flakes were you trying?

Welcome back, get One tobacco and work on it for a while until its like second nature, avoid flakes, they can be a bear trap waiting to bite for a while, just go with regular tobacco's a start discovering new flavors and work on your techniques, then anytime you feel patient enough try some flakes again, but ask and research what others say about it, flakes might look the same, but sometimes the prep before smoking can be a wide range of times.
I'm a newbie but getting better, and I have fought with flakes a lot, but then I stop and research and read more and I am sloooooowly getting better ;)
Good Luck in your journey, and as we all have said, don't give up, ask anything and take it easy, its just a pipe:rolleyes:

I did the same thing years ago. Keep it simple with packing a pipe. No complicated methods. My biggest issue was with how to smoke. I was smoking the pipe as if it were a cigarette. Once you get it all going right for you you'll be fine. Just hang in there.

I've been smoking a pipe for a bit and sometimes it still does not quite come together. More good bowls than bad for sure. Glad your back. Now you know what it's like when it DOES come together. Not a better feeling than to sit, relax and get a few knots out yer rope.

I gave up on flake packs for now. I realized it is not in my skill set to yet pack a flake without rubbing it out. So I rub them out and still enjoy them. There should be less stress in smoking a pipe, not more.
