I ordered a couple of large Danish freehands off Ebay last week, and they've finally arrived! Took some pictures, for a size comparison the black thing in the background is my iPad 2 case.

The first one doesn't have a maker's name, but has "Hjerte - Brier Kobenhavn Denmark" stamped on the stem. Over 7" long, the bowl is wide and deep enough for me to stick my thumb in and twirl it around!

The second one is a Soren freehand. Not as long as the Kobenhavn, but the bowl is 4" tall, and I can give it the same thumb-twirl treatment.

I'm really looking forward to the promised 2 hour smoke with these monsters!

Isaid it's wide and deep enough for me to stick my thumb in and twirl it around! I got slapped twice. Once for saying it and once for doing it.

I've never owned a large pipe of that caliber.
How long does it take to smoke a pipe load in one of those?
What's your preferred tobacco for them?

Love Danish Freehands. Nice ebay buys! I have a Preben Holm and a Karl Eric that are of similar size.

The biggest pipe I have is .88x2.25" and anything bigger than it blows my mind. I am hoping the original poster to this thread posts*MORE pictures so the rest of us can drool....... :)

*Edited to MORE after I realized there were pictures and I spaced out.

Well done sir, they are beauties! Dang, I'd love such a beautiful oversize freehand. Maybe I'll grab an oversize Nording freehand sometime, I've got an Eriksen sitter which is my favourite pipe for Boswell aros. But with Birthday and Christmas close enough together and not a lot of spare wallet paper nowadays, I'll make myself wait until January ;)

These are my first giants, so I'm new to this as well. I haven't had a chance to smoke them yet, so I can't say how long they take to load and smoke.

As for tobacco, I'm going to have to go out and purchase more, since I don't have enough of any individual mixture in my current stock. I'll probably go for something relatively cheap since my current favorite (Davidoff Medallions) is far too expensive to fill such large pipes!

I wish there was a way to track down its history, but unfortunately it doesn't have any other markings other than the "Hjerte - Brier" and "Kobenhavn" stamps.

Unless someone knows more about those stamps?

I assume you know the meaning of the words is Heart Briar Copenhagen. We talked about one like this a couple of weeks ago; is this the same one?

Yes, this is the same one we talked about. I ended up buying it because I was impressed by its size, and I like the shape and look of it.

Since then I've been researching and trying to pin down pipe makers whom might by associated with the pipes that bear this stamp, but no luck.
