    Hi,

Alcos were made by F(alco)n and were reissued off and on until fairly recently ( the bumf that came with a Falcon I bought last year listed them and a deluxe version in black with a gold coloured band ).

Alco's bowl are smaller than standard Falcon bowls - about the size of the discontinued Bantam range, and though they feature a similar four point starting thread on the bowls they are not interchangeable with Falcons. As far as I can remember there were only four bowls available for the Alco range "Dublin" rustic and smooth ( which you have ) and "Apple" rustic and smooth.

Alco offered all the advantages of a Falcon - dry smoke, easy cleaning, readily available evrywhere at the time and were actually more strongly constructed. The smaller bowl size apart, in some ways, I thought them a slightly better pipe than a Falcon and smoked them for quite a few years.

    Hope this helps,

    Gerry

Those are some nice old pipes that should clean up easily and smoke great, especially that Dr. Grabow Westbrook!

That's a mighty fine inheritance. What a nice way to remember your grandfather and have a legacy to pass on.
