Hey guys hope your all well.

So i have just had the christening smoke of my new alco with a little kendal north star.
    And the verdict?
As good s the falcon, its a beautiful smoker, obviously the breaking in period it drips with moisture and gets a bit warm, but i know when this baby is broken in its going to be a beautiful smoke.

Im a happy bunny through the pain of my shoulder :D

    happy days.

    Falcon -- Falcon -- Alco
Coincidence? I think not. Does anyone know the history of Alco? Like, did someone at Falcon (or whatever the company name was) mis-stamp a truckload of pipes that they had to get rid of somehow or did some employee leave Falcon and vow revenge? :poke:
Just kidding, Craig. I'm glad that it smokes well. Hope it continues to get better with age.

1964: The launch of the Alco Pipe by Falcon.

The name Alco came about when Falcon first began distributing Falcon in the UK. George Hunt, realising that Comoy had a line of pipes with that name, and not wishing to infringe any copyright had a think about it. The decision was to rework the stems, buffing out the F and N from FALCON as the thickness of the aluminium was sufficent. They could not remove the name completely without damaging the pipe. In the end the trade mark issue was settled, as it was not even an issue with Comoy. The name Falcon went forward in UK and ALCO was kept as the name for another line of Falcon pipes, the ones with the smaller thread.

Well I've been fortunate enough that my Falcon bowls were all broken in for me by the time I took hand of them. Do you find they break in easy?

easy enough stone, i normally do 2-3 half bowls, 2-3 three qaurter bowls and a couple of full bowls.
the first one or two half bowls can be nasty, it can have a nasty taste and absolutely drip with moisture and at times you can fry an egg on the humidome, but after that first bowl theres a marked difference and after the second its practically gone that its not even noticeable.
the first falcon i had, i did have a few teething problems and i was almost ready to give up, but stuck with it learned the right cadence and ive never looked back since.
