I wanted to place an order last night for 4 tobaccos that were recommended to me by some of you guys and all but 1 were sold out EVERYWHERE I looked. Needless to say I was a little bummed :(

As a rule, tobacco is much, much easier to get than it was 15 or so years ago. Certain tobaccos, however, have become scarce since sites like this (and previous to this) have been around.
I remember buying boxes of Full Virginia Flake that literally had dust on them from sitting for so long. A certain amount of groupthink is at work, when you hear someone say "X" is the best tobacco ever, naturally you buy it. At a pipe shop, that means one person buys one tin. On the web, it means 500 people buy five tins each, because now they know words like "cellar", and they can put pictures of their conquest on the "Latest Purchase" thread.
I digress a bit, to the point, there is more readily available terriffic tobacco than any time I know of.

Thanks JP, all that makes sense. I guess I didn't stop and really think about it. If a certain type become well liked and posted about on the interwebs, more people read about it, more people buy it, and they buy more.

That being said, as an extremely new comer to the pipe world when these tobaccos do become available how much should I buy in case I like it and don't want to wait for months for it to become available again?

I think they're possibly the top 3 most in demand tobaccos ;)

Samuel Gawith is a relatively small operation and of course they look after the home market first, consequently their stuff is readily available in the UK and near impossible at times to find in the US.

Keep an eye on the forums. When hard to find tobacco pops up, the guys are usually pretty good at giving everyone a heads up. It goes quick though.
