Went out for lunch and found a local tobacco shop that actually stocks pipe tobacco (not just glass & brass), and its considerably cheaper than another less-local shop that has only MacBaren (sorry lady).

Picked up these tins: SG FVF, SG Skiff, SG Black XX, OGS, Peterson's Irish Flake, and Escudo. They had a whole bunch more, but I ran out of money. One week till payday...

We have a tobacconist local with a very nice full service bar and a decent selection of bulk blends, but no tins. I wish we had a shop like The Briary or 4noggins local! Your place sounds cool Jeff. Congrats on the find. :thumb:

That's quite a find indeed. All the tobacco shops anywhere near me stock cruddy bulk "house blends" or only Captain Black. The one that actually sells decent stuff has prices that border on extortion.

    *sigh*

I heard that! I went to a tobacconist in San Antonio, about 20 miles away because they said they had a large selection. They had about 30+ bulk blends of pretty good quality, but all were $5-6 per pound. Compared to $3-4 at most others.. Then were his TIN prices! I saw a row of Peterson Irish Oak, which I wanted to try; it was $19.99! I pulled up an on-line store that had it for $10.99 on my phone and showed it to him. He said I should buy it from them. I did and I haven't been back.

It's our Texas taxes that make it so high! I buy all out of state now, now tell me how they come out ahead for all the little children?

Fortunately, here in PA (Pennsylvania, not Prince Albert), pipe tobacco isn't taxed except for the usual 6% sales tax gouging. This is because a large producer (Middleton's out near Philadelphia, I think) has a very strong lobby in the state legislature. The last time I placed an order with Boswell's, they confirmed this when I requested they make sure to charge me any and all applicable taxes.

My closest real live tobacco shop is in Springfield, a 2 1/2 hour drive. Don't get up that way often, but when we do, Just For Him is ALWAYS on the itinerary.

Sir, you have very good taste in tobacco. I hate it when I run out of money whilst purchasing several tins of my favorite weed.
