I've not been smoking my toby very quickly this winter so I decided to "can" some of it. I am not sure if my technique was the best, but worst case is that I have it in airtight jars instead of tins now.

Nothing wrong with having your own little tobacco shop!:toast:
I'd even prefer small tins to large jars because you only ever have to open one small tin / small quantity of tobacco instead of the whole lot! :bing:

My canned tobacco takes about half the shelf space in the mud room...Used to be canned food there. Gotta keep your priorities straight. :puffy:

I noticed that after I bought em. I like the size though, gets a 50g tin sealed away no problem. I may end up putting a piece of cardboard or something in between one and the one on top so I can stack them that way. Who knows, maybe I'll just go pick up some of the more stackable ones next time. I foresee this TAD thing becoming an issue. :D

The little teeth in the bottom of those little fat jars help them make a fairly stable pyramid. I love em.

A couple of years ago I was keeping them. I guess the newness of a tin I hadn't tried before made it difficult to part with when smoked up. I soon got over that, when the empties caused a reduction in storage for full jars and stacks of tins. Somewhere around the 10 lb mark I started tossing them. I have a few for storing a day's smoke in or for sending a few ziplocks of samples in the mail. Most of them had their labels yanked and stuck on a jar anyway.

Yeah, I considered keeping a couple for just putting a day or two's worth of toby in, or to keep at the office.

I have a big pipe cabinet with a drawer in the bottom. these short, flat jars stack on edge (they're square) in the drawer...two rows of 12 jars. these and about 10 more on the second shelf are my "working" tobacco. I put a label on the side of the jar, and that faces up....easy to find that way......
