20 bones!! I love the look and guess that the stem was replaced hiding the makers ID ( I forgot to mention that the auction was for an "unmarked pipe"). That sort of finish is my bread and butter. I don't think i have a pro eye or anything but barring some sort of metal embellishment on the stem I can't see how this couldn't be sold by some top end English artisan for 300... But please correct me if i'm wrong cause i do want to improve my eye on this sort of thing. I bet I'll get some good smoking out of this anyhow.

Please share thoughts, good buy or reckless impulse?

Heck yea, I agree. I've been eyeing up Dunhills, Ashtons, and Ser Jacopos lately. :beck:

Of course it's in my interest to hope for the best.

I have no eye for anything, but most pipes that you are entertaining typically have a marks on the briar...somewhere. If yours has none, well...it doesn't necessarily mean anything...but, I think it lessens the chance of it being a Dunny, for example. Now, the seconds some smaller makers put out may well say nothing, so you could have a gem that was cast aside for some slight imperfection. Smoking that puppy may be your best clue.

BTW, I like dark blasts more than other finishes too...name brand be damned, that pipe looks purdy!

I have a dark blast I'm fond of too. That one looks like it would be a nice smoker. :th1:

I haven't a clue what that could be, but it is a really nice looking pipe. I wouldn't have passed it up for twenty bucks, either.

Yea I have a thing for billiards and sitters. Not sure what rubbery thing you're talking about though, the piece of dried wood behind it?

IMHO, the end of the tenon looks exactly like
my Savinelli capri. Like T-bear says, put a
white dot on it and no one will know the
    difference! Happy smoking!
