I was just out in the shed doing some work on a pipe I am making. Bent over to pick something up off the floor and heard a crack. Didn't think anything of it at the time. Just came in to have lunch and reached into my pocket to get my best pipe out to give it a clean - tenon snapped.

The moral of the story is - they're called beater pipes for a reason. Think that I'll be taking one of my cheap pipes with me next time I'm doing some carving.

On the plus side, it does give me an excuse to go to Blakemar.

That sucks! If I'm carrying one on me I try to keep it in the breast pocket of my jacket to avoid such an unfortunate occurrence. I you're going to keep it in a pants pocket, I'd recommend a Falcon.

It was in my jacket pocket. I'm still quite confused about the physics behind how it got so squashed that it snapped but never mind.

Does that mean he'll have to do penance? Or is it enough punishment that the pipe broke?

Yes it does give us an excuse indeed. Which pipe was this btw? Maybe a suitable replacement can be made/found?

Anyone know if Aristocob is still doing the magnet thing? I read about it in one of the old threads.

It was the sandblasted bulldog with the red and black acrylic stem. I'm sure Mike will be able to get it up and running again.

I'd agree, but horrible puns and turns of phrase are a common trait among the my father's side of the family. It's like a genetic disease...I have it, my brother has it, my father has it, my uncle and my grandfather, and my late great uncle....the ladies seem exempt, and it's not present on my mother's side of the family, so I figure it must be genetic. I just try to restrain myself here :D

Sorry to hear that your tenon snapped-I moved a chair onto a churchwarden stem...... heard the snap and checked for a pipe. Just the stem was on the ground, not sure how it got there but I am blaming my cat.
