Look at this picture and read the signs on this olde tyme tobacconist. You know they kept pipe tobacco in there, and you know you'd be welcome to smoke it at the lunch counter with beer on tap!

I doubt it is open today.

Sometimes I wish I'd lived in times like that. I'd surely spend a fair bit of my money in that store, but what I'd spend would be offset by the money I'd save on rent. Food, tobacco, beer... why would I ever have to leave?

Now we aren't allowed to have all those "sinful" things in the same location. Pictures like that make me think of times I'll never know where people were much more social and friendly than most are today. Probably get great service in that shop too.

I agree. Sometimes I long for times when life was a little more simple. When you could be a milkman and still make enough money to buy a house and support a family.

That isn't a good strategy for someone who has a family to support.

True. I might have been a lonely old man back then.

A smoke, a sandwich, and a cold beer, could life get any better?

[edit] even better if above mentioned items were served by an attractive waitress!

Awesome picture! I think I was born in the wrong time... "Your purchase free if we ever forget to thank you." Now THAT is a promise of good service.

Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong era too, but maybe that's why we're in this one to keep that old fashioned torch lit no matter how low the flame has gotten. I do love seeing old photos like that.
