This is meant as just a quick poll, really....

Smoking a bowl, obviously, takes some time and effort. That requires time, and time for me means a certain degree of solitude. Going out of one's way to meet like minded individuals seems to me to be the antithesis of what attracted me to pipe tobacco in the first place.

What are you general opinions on pipe clubs/groups?

(This is partially directed at a general societal impulse to ban the spontaneous; that to smoke one has to go to a designated area.)

I think theyre a good time . I liked it best when it was attatched to a B&M . Having a pipemaker or rep w/ cool stuff makes it even better ! People gettin together to smoke , have a drink and shoot the bull .... heck , whats better !? Well , other than the obvious

While I am for the most part, a solitary smoker, I would like nothing better than to have a place to sit and enjoy the company of like-minded people.
I'm not effected by any "societal impulse", nor do I see it as banning the spontaneous. This would be an added aspect to the hobby...the *ability* to go to a designated area on occasion, would just add to an already pleasant pastime.

I mostly puff alone, but it's always great to have like-minded company to compare toys and baccys. I'm a big fan of pipe clubs, and I schedule even my ffishing and trips around my monthly Morley's Pipe Club meeting in Philly. I also joined the NYC PC and go to some of their events, such as summer BBQs. I learned more several years ago in several Morley meetings than I had the previous 43 years of puffing.

I would like to see a club of sorts in my area, but wouldn't really want to start one here as I doubt I would be a regular. The closest to me now is about a 45 minute drive into Portland and then, depending on the location, traffic and parking. This all seems to detract from the purpose. I am happy to have others that don't mind a pipe around me; but I'm just as content with my own company.

I thought of joining a local pipe club. Then I looked at a picture of the members, and wondered if what they might have to say would be of interest to me. I decided it would not. The concept is great though.

I've been to a few pipe club meetings. The topics tend to head more toward politics, and mine don't mesh with most of the types that live in this area. I either stay out of the discussion or I don't go. I tend to not go.

I've thought about it, but for me, I enjoy just be and a few close friends (not that I wouldn't love a round with you blokes ) but I don't want to stray into unfamiliar waters. I don't want someone telling me why my stuff sucks (I want advice, and opinions, but not judgments, if you understand my meaning)

If you get judgment you're with the wrong bunch. :)

I completely agree. The trouble is, some people look at PA and a cob and call you out.

That looks like you are trying to determine who just crop dusted the room...I also notice a disturbing trend forming, jacket and tie. Did you call Ruff before you took this picture?

And to steal a quote, I would never join a club that would have me as a member.
