Got a so called estate 'meer' pipe today. Screw-on 'Amber' stem (as I expected - so that's OK).

Then I got suspicious about the bowl - not the slightest coloration at all - and the
    weight felt wrong.

And then the bummer: Bowl is metal lined on the inside!! So now I suspect strongly that
the bowl isn't meerschaum at all - but painted wood or something.

Don't wanna scratch t much or else I don't get refund.
    Origin: Lithuania.

    What do you think?

Sent a message to seller and requested refunding or delivery
    of a real meerschaum pipe.

Any photos of the inside of the bowl?
Very odd! Never heard of anything like that. That bad boy will smoke HOT!

Also, if this was from Ebay, would you please include the auction link, so we can see who the seller is, and read the description?

    The seller responded quickly:

    Dear Sir,

I'm very very sorry for mistake, this happend by accident, I was cheated by previous owner
of this pipe and I didn't check the material myself... I will refund you all the amount you've paid.

Sorry one more time, I hope you will understand that.

    Best regards, Tomas

That's good news! Also explains the sellers 100% feedback score.

hmmmi get the feeling it maybe a cheap chinese knock off made out of dust rather than actual meerschaum...chinese cobs can have the same metal lining.

My only concern about the seller is that he said it was "cleaned and ready to smoke" and describing the condition. One would assume that he didn't just write that, but actually looked over the pipe? Or was he just trying to dupe someone?

Perhaps made of meerschaum dust and the metal lining is to preserve the integrity of the pipe. Hard to say, except a metal lining in a meerschaum pipe would be defeating the purpose.

he's lucky it wasn't ''me'' who bought that one.. I'd probably loose myself.. I have a passion for Meerch'm pipes (even though i can't afford one).. I'd have done more than just sent him a message.. I'm thinking of a movie with a horse's head in a bed..

    Let us know what happens?

Easy there amigo! Take a few deep breaths and count to 10.
He's getting a full refund. It seems as though it was just a little misunderstanding.
No need to go, full on, Gambino family on the guy.

We have to keep in mind that a LOT of these sellers are not pipe knowledgeable...mistakes will be made, and most are honest mistakes. We can better serve our hobby by keeping a cool head when dealing with these people. It can be turned into an opportunity to educate the seller, a win-win scenario in the end. Keep calm, explain their mistake in detail, and ask for a refund...but be a gentleman/lady at all times.

If he/she blows you off....then get nasty!

Not Everyone on ebay is trying to rip people off!
difficult to see the inner bowl from one crappy pic in the description and the seller probably isn't a pipe smoker themselves or he would understand the need to view all aspects of the pipe.

however as you probably paid by paypal you will ALWAYS get your money back if not happy just file a claim as not as described.
in most cases the seller will be eager to settle any problem to avoid the dreaded neg that will follow.
as the amount was small you will probably get to keep the pipe as a freebie and use the money towards another pipe!

Save it for the winter and use it for when you build a snowman!!!

I know a few relatives who I don't claim that would like a metal lined pipe--but they don't smoke tobacco. I've gotten quite frustrated when looking for pipe stuffs online because of all the metal bowl pipes...

PS--I've always wanted to do the horse's head routine, but have not found myself in a situation that called for it. I swear, I really am not crazy...
