Go enjoy it. The beauty of pipes is that you can have really whatever you want. You'll go back to cobs eventually haha.

Doug, I love your choice of words here! Wait until those briars have 6 months worth of Carter Hall cake in them. The flavor will only get better and better.

Now you just need to try a couple of Virginia blends in a virgin briar and build a cake from Virginia leaf. I still think Burley is better in a cob, but you will definitely have a different experience with Virginia in a briar IMHO. You need me to send you some for testing? :bing:

David, in answer to your quetion about the validity of the mantra "X smokes better in------", I don't know. My CH seems to be subtly different in each pipe. Briar, cob or meer, it is all good. Since I am satisfied with CH in all 3, I seriously doubt I will be going out trying all the different pairings and permutations.

I gues I could sum it up by saying they each are gratifying in their own way.

    Good thing is, you'll never
    try a Falcon because you
    know you'll never come
    back from that one.

Snake, I realize that somehow your posts are rendered into poetry by the magic of the interwebz, and that it is unintentional on your part, but coming across an essence so thoroughly distilled on this or any other forum always shakes me. It's bad enough that Doug is turning into a butterfly, but you going Lao Tzu on us in conjunction may overcome me.

    Funny thing about that.
    When emailing was new
    The box provided left
    very little space to type.
    The text would 'wrap'
    to the next line, which
    irritated me to no end.
    Never got over
    that trauma.
    :D
