First of all estate pipe sounds a lot classier than "some guys old pipe". ;-)

Saw this on Craigslist for $20

Anyone know what the initials on the stem stand for, SWS?
Beyond needing a good cleaning, it smokes wonderfully.

looks great! Last pipe I got off Craigs List had been well smoked, bad thing though. It was not pipe tobacco that had been well smoked.

He threw another pipe in for free as well. He had lost the stem for it, I'll post a picture later.
His father used to collect pipes, so he told me he would dig the rest out of storage and give me a call.

Wow!! Sweet pipe! I am kinda surprised Tobacco related items are supposed to be a no-no on Craigslist, I thought, Beale.

This is the pipe that he threw in for free. As you can see it's missing its stem. I have no idea where or if I could even get another one for it, but I figured, it was free so might as well take it. Any ideas if its possible to find/buy a stem for this?

A free pipe too!?! Sweet, that is an awesome, awesome pipe. There are members of the forums that can get you a new stem. Look in the Pipe Maintenance section of the forums.

That free one doesn't take a stem. It's an old German style pipe, but I forget the name. The bowl fits into another piece which has the stem.

That's just the bowl. the bowl fits perpendicular into a long shank with a short bent stem. I had a pic of a simiolar pipe, called a Cavalier, but can't seem to locate it right now. Check Cavalier in any pipe shape guide and you'll get the idea.

Nice meer! I'd call that a pierced apple....pierced from the pattern on the bowl. SMS makes a good mid-grade meerschaum....that one would pro-lly retail for $80-90 new, so you got a killer bargain!
There's a lot of good info on the care and feeding of meerschaum pipes on here..............
