I have a pipe that doesn't get much use that I am considering trading it for another pipe. It needs a little TLC to get it back to its new luster (a few dull spots, minor teeth chatter and a slightly charred rim) but what I'm most concerned with is a small surface split that reared its ugly head in the shank. I've examined it very closely and it appears that it is only at the surface (a flaw in the briar) and it certainly doesn't affect how it smokes. What I need help with is determining if it is even trade-able with that split or I going to take such a loss on doing so that its not worth it? Also, what would be a reasonable trade value for it? I've included pictures and specs but any advice from here would be great.

It still smokes great, I'm just learning that I'm not a fan of the full bent shapes. I prefer straight pipes or those that that just are slightly bent.

(NOTE: in keeping with forum rules I'm not looking for offers in this thread, just advice on how or if I should proceed).

    Savinelli Trevi, 602
Purchased new around Feb of this year
Paid approx $100 for it at my B&M
Only has maybe 15 bowls through it

    Very minor rim darkening...

You can see the small split between the 6 and the 0...

Finish is dull about half way up from the shank on the bowl...

I'll bet you can foist that off on Ruffinogold. He's a sucker for Savinelli.

So after some good advise from Coastie, I have decided to try to reach out to Savinelli and see if they can help me resolve the crack issue. Recently there was no US website or contact info for Sav but I checked today and there is a new US distributor/importer (Laudisi Distribution Group). I started with them so we will see how it goes. If they agree to replace the pipe I may see if they'll send me a different shape, thus resolving both issues.

All this talk of foisting it off and straight Petersons, it's enough to get my Falcon in a twist. As is that pipe, very tasty.

Laudisi is smokingpipes.com . That's a pretty minor flaw that may not amount to anything bad . The 602 is an awesome shape and the grain on it it real nice . If they don't work with you , honestly , I'd just smoke it

Interesting. I was not aware that they were part of the same company.

I think the pipe is gorgeous, I'm just not fond of bent shapes. And the pics I originally posted don't show it very well but I took some more with my good camera and it really shows the split better. Right now it's just surface level but I fear over time, it may expand through the shank and ruin the pipe. If they're willing to work with me I'd love to swap it out for a straight version of the same pipe.
