The 314 is a favorite shape of mine, and that one looks well used, which is a good thing. Maybe it's just the photo, but it looks like the rustication has been worn down in spots. That usually happens because it's somebodys favorite pipe and it spent a lot of time in their front pocket.

I think you got a fine old pipe that once cleaned up will give you many years of enjoyment! Those old Pete's make for a fine smoking pipe.

The Peterson looks good, once polished the mouthpiece and ring will look good.
It's a classic pipe and smoke very well.
The Q McLintock is nice but looks burnt on the bottom.
About the lot I can not tell you much, it seems a lot of pipes in good condition. Obviously, the St. Claude is French, I think that a 2 º brand of Choquim Butz, the Cherry pipe seems a Ropp and leather covered pipe could be a Longchamp. The three brands are French.
    Greetings.

That is exactly what he means. An old, unused pipe is most always a question mark, while an old, slightly used pipe is suspicious...(bad smoker?...may be.) An old, beat to hell pipe, smoked habitually, but still sound? Yeah, somebody loved that old burner, and for a reason...

Coincidentally, I'm currently clenching an old estate 314, smoking Irish Flake in her. If I was more honest with myself, I'd admit its my favorite burner. Great pipe, and mine was totally beat up when I got it, too!

Not a problem, if care is just a small problem. I have a pipe Rossi has even cracked the bowl upside down and smokes perfectly.

Yes, I think you got a good deal on your new Pete. Nothing like a well seasoned pipe of it's caliber.
