I was at the local shop this Friday having a mid day smoke when I went and stuck my nose in the "basket pipe" drawer. I seriously think this pipe was mislabeled because for $30 it's a fine looking pipe. It's a Butz Choquin Trocadero.

I've got to admit most of the BC's I've seen have been way too funky for my taste, but this one is very classic and drilled perfectly. The crappy picture doesn't show how nice the grain is, but it has great birdseye on both sides and cross grain front and back. Needless to say I plopped down $30 quicker than you can say "Bob's your uncle" and took off to the truck.

I was recently gifted some Butternut Burley and this pipe has been burning it like a champ. I'm always in the market for "cheap" pipes to keep around as starters for friends who show interest, but this one is staying with me! I'm very happy with this purchase.

When you get your hands on a good BC, it's a keeper. I think you did very well.

    Nice looking pipe.
My local shop sells BC, and like you, I find most of them, aesthetically unappealing, but they have this one, a blasted half bent squat tomato, that I like very much. Unfortunately, it has a MASSIVE pit right in the front of the bowl. If not for that I would own it.

awesome purchase my friend, for what you paid for that bc, it would be impossible to find a butz choquin in my part of the world for that price, you got yourself an absolute bargain and hope it provides many years of faithful service.

BC has always put out some good pipes. I have several, and like them, enjoy!! The tool is a little fancy for my taste, but if you like it, that's all that counts.

Have a wonderful Christmas* and a Happy New Year!!

*(This from the cranky old Jew in Chicago ... and my Lutheran wife of many years celebrate, and have a wonderful tree!!)

Thanks guys. I got the tamper a few months ago from Linda Slayden on etsy. Has my initials on the back. I have been very happy with it. The pipe is turning out to be an absolutely wonderful pipe. Great smoke each time.

Great pipe! I'm pretty sure it must have been priced incorrectly. At any rate, score!

It's a killer pipe ! I guess if you put a band of whatever on it and stamped it w/ a Danish Name .... it would be worth 400 bucks and the " experts " would talk of the nuance of the shape and the " genius " of the maker for slecting that block of briar and how he envisioned the grain to the shape or the shape to the grain ... etc ... It's a killer pipe !
