So I started off with a lousy aromatic and quickly jumped into Lat blends. I am looking to try something different like a straight Va or burley blend. Any suggestions would be great. I am not a huge fan of Perique (although I do love the Nightcap) so VaPers are out.

Plumcake, McBaren's London Burley Blend and McConnell's Oriental have no Perique or Latakia. I like them but your mileage may vary.

McClelland's Blackwoods Flake, SG Full Virginia Flake, Rattray's Hal O' The Wynd, and a real good one is a VaBur from SG called Kendal Cream Flake. Good luck!

+1 on Dunhill Flake. It is my first, and so far only, virginia flake endeavor and it is wonderful.

Capstan Original Navy Cut (Va)and Orlik Golden Sliced - red (VaPer) are two blends I like. I have tried some and these are y semi favorites. The reason why I don't have these high up is that they have a bit to complex taste to be a casual smoke IMO. I like to have either when I'm reading a book but don't find them good as a morning smoke where I naturally suggest Borkum Riff Bourbon Whiskey.

This is also a good one.

A nice amiable straight virginia is McClellands Red Cake (Bulk #5100). Naturally sweet and very easy to smoke.

For burley, I'm going to recommend my standard - Uhle's Blend 00. A bit of sweetness in this one as well but neither will overpower you with sugar.

I have tried Peterson Sherlock Holmes, it's a Virginia with a hint of Burley. It was quite good, but I haven't trained my taste buds to pick up on the more subtle flavors that others speak of.

LOL anything but Briar Fox. Everyone else seems to be discovering it, and I get antsy when I see it out of stock. :D

Loving this thread, from what I've experienced so far it seems my taste buds aren't liking Latakia so this is fantastic.....keep 'em coming people :D
