    This has been posted elsewhere, but I don't think I've had enough external validation regarding this pipe yet ;)

    Yesterday I took delivery of an unsmoked Lane era Charatan Selected Dublin. This pipe is a solid group 6, so I'll be using it for Lat blends. I'm not sure of the exact vintage, because this pipe does not have either of the customary hand made stampings that help put it in a date range, having only the make and line stamping common to all Charatans, and the Lane florid L. I have no way of knowing if this pipe is a 58-64 early Lane era or a 64-78 late.

    In every way, this pipe looks like it was made last year. I have put on my reading glasses and looked, and I can not find a single handling mark. The chamber was naked and perfect, til I put a break-in bowl of Burley through it last night. (I didn't buy this pipe to look at it, although this is the only pipe I ever had a twinge of doubt about striking the first match to it)

    The stem is perfect. Hope I don't have to fight to keep it that way.

    I have some nice pipes and I'm no stranger to PAD threads, though I don't think I've ever posted one here before. This is a special pipe. Charatan is one of my very favorite makes, and the Dublin is my single favorite shape. This is probably the most significant pipe I'll ever buy.

    This is also the nicest straight grain pipe I own, by a mile. Really tight and crisp.

    I'm going to love and take care of this one until it's someone else's turn to care for it for a while. It's a perfect example of a Lane era Charatan and I'm thrilled to have it on the rack.

    Gorgeous pipe! I have always liked the way Charatan puts that little step in the stem near the button.

    Wishing you a lifetime of pleasure with that bad boy!

    Based on your posts I'd have not thought you to be one in need of "validation" (-;

    Beautiful bit o' briar c&d, really. LOL, consider this acquisition validated!

    I can't stop looking at that pipe. I'm sure you will be enjoying it for many years. I'd have loved to just watch you light that first bowl. I don't get many unsmoked estates, even in an average pipe, it is still a wonderful experience. That pipe is far from average!

    Beautiful pipe! I'm glad you chose to enjoy it, after all that's what theyre made for. Personally I'm not a fan of pipes just sitting on the shelf.
