I like the looks of these pipes, and I'm thinking about buying a couple. I like Petes, and I like that this series has non-tarnishing nickel bands. I also like pipes that utilize an army mount. Does anybody out there actually own a Pete Irish Army series pipe, and if so what do you think of it?

I had one (now departed in a trade) - it smoked well enough, and was made ok - for a 'factory' pipe, but these days I would not buy any Peterson without being able to give close examination! - as I am of the opinion that the build quality of recent ones can vary from good to sadly lacking!.

That's what I've heard, but so far I've had good luck with all the ones that I have bought via mail order. Except for the P-Lips. I really don't like how they feel. Do you recall your old Army series well enough to comment on what you liked or disliked about it?

I've got a 102. Just finished smoking it actually. It gurgled a heck of a lot when I first got it, but it settled down after I got it broke in and now, a year on, it's a fantastic and hassle free smoker. A great flake pipe, actually.

I own three of them and enjoy them quite a bit. I prefer the p-lip, but really, you can't go wrong with this style either way, in my opinion.

Good to hear. I just fell victim to a serious case of PAD, and ordered two Pete Irish Army pipes: a #101 (Billiard) and a #87 (Apple). I really like the finish and nickel mount. I also ordered a Pete two-pipe tobacco pouch. I know... I know... I'm worthless and weak. But I "needed" these pipes and tobacco pouch. I'm gonna order me a Pete lunch box and some Pete underwear next payday. ;)

Had me right up until $146 and change. I was just looking for a decent (and relatively inexpensive) pair of travel pipes. My Falcons are great, but my Falcon smoking kit is a bit too cumbersome to just drop down a shirt pocket. See, I can find a number of ways to rationalize my PAD.

I know. A future case of PAD is already incubating there in my festering peanut brain...

I have a 69 - super bowl, but found it poorly balanced with the small stem, so put the silver spigot stem from my 221 on. Puffing on it now :)

I am not at Pete fan in fact I despise the P-lip. However I bought an Army mount to take duck hunting because it would come apart and assemble easily. The shape I bought was 999. I liked it so much I bought 2 more just like it. They are very good pipes.

I can see me getting one of those now its been brought to my attention. My pete wasn't the best smoker in the world when I got it but after it finaly got broken in its pretty good only thing I dislike is the P lip. the Army mount 999 with a fishtail however looks pretty nice.

Boxers or briefs? I have the Pete boxer-briefs myself. My wife thinks they're sexy. Be careful with the lunch box though, I hear those new Pete thermoses aren't being made well. :D
