This pipe, in my local backonista's shop is $259. I look online & I see it for more than $100 over the store price. My question is, given that that's a low price as compared to online, I'm wondering, what's wrong w. the pipe? LOL! I haven't done the pipecleaner test, but I have a pipe that failed that & smokes like a dream, so I wonder......Am I really just THAT lucky? LMAO!

Pipes are mostly ' keystoned ' , meaning if a retailer buys it for a hundred he then sells it for two hundred . If your local guy is cheaper then maybe he's not keystoning it .More than likely he's wanting to sell it . And there's nothing wrong with that . You bought it ... or not ?

There is a very large retail markup on most pipes, which is also why you see lots of sites offering wildly marked down prices - marked down from an artificially high "suggested retail price" I reckon.

Those Peterson freehands are usually around 300 bucks from what I've seen. They look like nice enough pipes if you like a large one with a P-lip stem. My experience with expensive Petersons has been very good. My vote: get it if you like it.

I wouldn't let 'the pipecleaner test' sway you...a deal is a deal!

I've never sweated wether a pipe cleaner can pass...while nice, and possibly indicative of a quality build, your own experience shows it isn't the end all, be all, it makes itself to be.

Bottom line...you have the money, and more importantly, want it...well, get it!!!

wait, hang on, it's here somewhere....LOL I'm getting it, I've put a down payment on it today & I'm picking it up in a week. I can't wait to smoke from it. This I think will be a virginias & navy flake pipe. I've got my sweets designated & my english blend & chickory coffee favorites already figured out & cooked & seasoned. I can't wait to bring her home! I'm also going to pick up another pipe, by savinelli, either a dublin or a billiard. I want a nice classic looking flake pipe. As it turns out, I have 2 corn cobs, 2 rhodesians, 1 apple, & a bent egg. SO, I'll be adding a huge honkin' viking looking thing & a 1st billiard or dublin I think.

that's what I said. My father came with me & said, "MAN, that's a big pipe, I don't even have a pipe that big!" I said, "Well, maybe that's something I get from mom's side & sounds like a personal issue for you!" LOL!!!

LOL...yeah I know. I can't wait to pick it up, I should have it by saturday. I'm going to see if I can dicker a bit & see if I can get a military discount! That should slice off at LEAST $25 off the price tag, I've seen this pipe marked at $360 - $380. I'm so excited!!! I think I remember it had a mid-sized diameter for a chamber, I am thinking she'd be ok w. flake!
