I was talking with my grandad 95yrs old and he said about his dad use to smoke a pipe. He said that he would have pig tail tobacco and often chew it to.

Anyone else chewed this tobacco? How does it smoke?

I'm guessing he's talking about a rope. Plugs and ropes were multi purpose, smoke them, chew them, grind them up, dry them into snuff - tobacco was tobacco.

Pigtail is a slimmed-down version of rope...my favorite is Brown Pigtail for it's strength, but it can be a bit harsh. Black "pig" is like Brown, but a bit smoother, almost oily in texture, probably due to it's processing. Both are a good source of Nicotine. Made by Samuel Gawith/Gawith & Hogarth.

Never got into chewing, so I'll leave that to others here.

Never chewed, but often wondered about smoking rope sold for chewing. I've seen it in a tobacco shop in GA that way, but it was with the chewing tobacco. Something about it seems appealing, so I might just have to buy some one day and try a smoke.
