Just got back from a trip to Gettysburg. While cruising the park, found that it is quite possible, and very enjoyable, to smoke my pipe while riding. Wearing a 3/4 helmet with the visor almost closed, had no problems with a bent. Biggest concern was an ember flying up and catching my beard on fire. But alas, all ended well!

I've always wanted to visit that park. I'd like to have an Ulmer when I go. Maybe I'll just break out the heirloom and see if it "remembers" the place..

I've often considered a pipe during a ride Basil, but how do you tamper?

Wish I'd known we were that close. And for tamping, I'd fill it half full, do the first burn, tamp, and relite if needed, then we'd take off. Most of the time I'd lite up as we got to a stop, and by the time we were ready to move on, it was burned down to a steady glow.
One thing I took from visiting Gettysburg...Respect! Those men..on both sides tried the impossible for 3 days. And while watching comrades fall, they fought on. If you've never been there, the length of open ground that Lee ordered his troops to cross, "Picketts Charge", No TV or movie camera could express how long it is. It was an amazing trip.

There is a wind cap for just that cause. I dont smoke while riding. jeewizz ...who are ya ? Mixing too many pleasures together can cause hedonism. Lol just joking. It would be cool to create a pipe for bikers so our beards wouldnt be in any danger.
