It is advertised as a red VA/Oriental blend, but is there Latikia present? Since Lat is an Oriental, it could be, but some say there is no Lat. flavor involved. What say you? I say thank you!

I think there is, and I think the tin description was written before blenders started listing Latakia separate from other Orientals. That's what I've been going on anyhow.

"A charming perfectly balanced dark mixture of virginia tobaccos, Orientals, Black Cavendish and a luxurious quantity of Latakia...."

That's what the little pamplet that came with a tin had to say about it.

I have a tin from a trade a while back but have way too many opens and keep getting samples in trade. I really need to finish my opens to get to crack a new tin. Kinda frustrating at times but hell, I have lots to smoke:toast:

If there is Lat. in it, most reviews state that it is way in the background.
DakOOk, you say it states"luxurious quantities!" Does it taste that way?

I taste Lat in it. But not a lot. Very nice blend.

Definately has Latakia in it, but quite a ballanced oriental. I didn't taste just the Latakia...

Red Rap definitely contains latakia. But it's an oriental-forward blend with virginia riding shotgun. Latakia is in the backseat... perhaps even the trunk. But it's definitely there.

Yea it's in there but in very small amounts, it doesn't satisfy my need for Latakia.

According to Kohlhase & Kopp (the manufacturer) there is some in there.
But I agree with those who said it was in small quantity.
The stars in this blend are VA & OR.

This bien said, this is one fine tobacco. Not very strong in vitamon N but very interesting nonetheless.

It's a classic. K&K may have messed up some of the Rattray virginia blends but they seem to have done a pretty good job with the latakia/oriental ones.

I absolutely agree. They are never disappointing!
And Hal' O' The Wynd is a superb Va/Ke broken flake.

This is a "one off" on the topic at hand, I guess. I've just gone through about a half-pound of the pound of Red Rapparee I bought in bulk. Somehow it does not seem as -- um -- rich and satisfying as the blend I used to get in the tins, back in the 70s and 80s. I know it is not exactly a side-by-side comparison and I know there's times I can't trust my memory to take care of my car keys for me, so it might be just having fun with me.
