A very good friend asked me to make a pipe for her Brother-in-law. So here it is...
She wanted it rusticated like my shop pipe

Deminsions: Bowl outside is 2 and 1/8" tall, 1 and 1/2" wide. Inside is 1 and 1/2" deep by 3/4" wide. Pipe is 5 and 5/8" overall. Used some dark brown stain I mixed by combining light brown and black. Followed with a coat of shellac. Had thought about a longer stem, but this length just seemed to "fit". Did a radius on the top of the bowl and left it smooth so it would be easier to clean later. The only problem is the more I hold it, the more I want to stuff tobacco in it and fire it up! Now that all the messing with machinery is over, think it's time for a Guinness. What do ya'll think? Comments, pointers, pokes with a sharp stick?

Very nice! I love the contrasting bits of smooth at top and bottom.

You still get to see some of the grain, but it's not "overwhelming"?

That is beautiful! And here's to hoping the Guinness is just as smooth as that pipe is good looking!

Agreed. It's time for another Guinness. Slightly chilled, in a glass. Poured so's it has a good bit of head.

Oh yeah.... that is an exceptional poker ya made there!

Basil, you've hit another home run my friend. Absolutely stunning!

I'd love to own that one myself - very nice shape, colour and rustified exceptionally well!

    Cheers, Carl

That is a fantastic pipe my friend. I love the poker style and the transition between the rustication and smooth. Well done.:thu2:

That's very nice. You might have gotten away with a longer stem, but I agree, that just looks " right".
    Well done.
