If you were going with this pipe.. what style would you chose?
I like straight pipes, most are light, easy to clench, comfortable and easily pass a pipe cleaner, especially if you smoke a filtered pipe.
It's hard to say ... I like the 114 billiard w/saddle and I'm a fan of the 606 shape [ taper stem ] .. it's not super bent and is well balanced . I didnt vote cause I dont know ... ya know . lol
Thanks for them pointers.. As i'm a current fan of bent. But cleaning is becoming a PIA. So trying to see what most think.
Cleaning in all Savinellis is about the same, because they leave all kinds of room inside the mortise. I don't see much advantage one way or the other in that regard with that brand.
Is there a link I'm missing? I need visuals! (Although I almost always favor a bent)
I voted for straight. You should have a couple of each no matter what.
I'm still confused..Still like the looks of the bent.
I haven't seen this series in a blast, but I have a rusticated 114ks that I love. Great smoker, but I will say (and this may be true of most lower-end Savinellis) I am having some minor issues with the finish wearing off on the bottom of the pipe. I think it might have to do with it being the part of the pipe which gets warmest....anyway, it's a minor issue, purely asthetic, may be avoidable or even uncommon. It doesn't bother me.
I also have a smooth Tevere 315ks which is discolored in a similar location - it's turned dark green in spots. I think it has to do with that pipe getting PARTICULARLY hot, and the deck furniture I most often sit in while smoking are painted green - it seems to have lifted a bit of paint. I haven't tried many ways of fixing it, but again, it doesn't bother me much.
Thanks for the link Ruffino. I've got to go with the bent although they're both a little traditional for me.
What are the bands made of on those? Is it painted metal? Acrylic?
I have a 607 and like it. I like the 616, 626, and 114 as well. I prefer the Roma line to the Trevi. The band on mine has already lost some of its plating. I think it's plastic but unsure.
I have the 616 KS, chunky bent billiard, rusticated - love it!
It's metal - beyond that, I don't know
I am pretty sure it isn't painted, though, because there are a couple nicks in the band where it meets the stem, and removing the stem to inspect it more closely the color is maintained inside the tiny blemishes.
Ya can't beat a Sav. I've got a few and each one smokes super. MOF, my Sav Peterson-clone Dry System pipes smoke the heck outta my Petersons. The larger, flatter stem is really nice too. I don't think you could go wrong with any Sav.
