I placed my September TAD order. Most are new tobys I've never tried and one is just stocking up on something I liked (yes PSF turned me on to it). I couldn't find one place that had everything, so had to order from 2 different etailers.

    Just for Him:
Middle Earth Sampler (1 oz ea of 5 blends)- I've heard so much about these I've been dying to try them
Dan Tobacco Sweet Honeydew Vanilla (6 oz bulk)- never had it, but have wanted to try it
McClelland Frog Morton (50g tin)- I've read about this for two years and finally pulled the trigger

    Cup O Joe's:
Solani ABF (2 50g tins)- tried it after multiple recommendations from PSF members & loved it; time to stock up
Orlik Golden Sliced (1 50g tin)- another new one that I've read raves from PSF guys

If any of these score 8-10 after try out, I'll bulk order them in October.

Save the Shortcut 'til last.... That way you won't be disappointed in the others. Not saying the others are bad...just saying that the STM is "best of show".

TR contradicts itself in stating that
the contents of Shortcut is Cavendish,
when the tin states that it's Latakia.
So, which is it? I only ask because I'd
    like to try some myself.

I'm working my way through this ME sampler now. I've only STM to try yet, but so far I like the Longbottom weed best. Ruins of Isenguard reminded me of FMOTT lite.

    That's good advice.

I'll be sure to post thoughts on these after trying them as well.

Got in from a road trip to Houston and was happily surprised by a package from JFH! I opened it and sniffed everything except the Frog Morton. It all smells yummy. The Sweet Vanilla Honeydew smells like you could eat it. I'm hoping to burn a bowl of something tonight... something else at lunch tomorrow... maybe another tomorrow night... of course one on Saturday... and so on. :eek:hyeah:

I need to practice repetitive sampling in case I ever get to participate in a box pass. :groucho:

PM me your address and I'll send you a sample of STM if you want to try it before you order some.

I burned some Sweet Honeydew Vanilla by Dan Tobacco in my MM Diplomat last night. The only other Dan toby I've smoked is Hamborger Veermaster, which I love, but comes in flakes. SHV is ready rubbed, but the color of the weed looks a lot like the HV. It smells nothing alike, though. The Vanilla smells wonderful in the bag. It was easy to pack, was neither dry nor overly moist. It lit well and smoked to the bottom w/o a relight (smallish bowl). The flavor was very smooth and nice the first half of the bowl. After the half way point, it started losing some flavor. The room note was nice as well. I enjoyed the smoke and will happily smoke the 6 oz I purchased, but probably will not buy in bulk again. On a 1-10 scale, I would rate SHV a 7 for the mediocre finish. I will try it again this weekend in my Meer to see if it makes any difference & revise if it does.

I burned a bowl of Longbottom Leaf today at lunch. Nice! It was smooth, creamy, and flavorful. Very good aromatic. I would rate this an 8 and will probably purchase more.

    Brad's Box Pass Practice Run:

Just For Him- Longbottom Leaf 8
Dan Tobacco- Sweet Vanilla Honeydew 7

I'm smoking another bowl of Longbottom on the way home from work. Partly because I have it with me, and partly because I liked it a lot! I'll try something else tonight if my tongue is not singed.

    Seemed fitting.

From an ancient Chinese pipe smoker:

A burning pipe holds a house of gold

A sealed tin of toby is but a piece of metal

A briar with a flaw is worth more than a pebble without imperfections

A gem is not polished without rubbing, nor a flake of fine toby

Be the first to light up and the last to tap ash

Give a man an ounce of 'baccy and he may smoke for a day. Teach a man to cellar and he may puff for a lifetime.

I did not smoke a bowl this evening to give mine tongue some needed rest.

Of course you may, but I might have been exaggerating a little on the Chinese guy. They could have been composed by a middle aged, Norwegianenglishmutt guy that doesn't really know what he's talking about.
