I've eye-balled the Pete silver-caps adoringly but have never pulled the trigger.

Who's got one? How's it smoke? Lemme see it!

I don't mean to be an enabler, but... I'm guessing you already saw this unsmoked estate on smokingpipes.com. I'll be interested to see who owns one of these bad boys, and how they smoke!

On the wrong day, in a different mood, I will rant on and on about the silliness of paying for silver on a briar pipe. Don't do nuthin' for it but make it look fancy, throwing good money after bad...

And then the devil part of me:

Well I'll be honest the silver doesn't make it smoke better, but when I'm sipping on it and I look down at the silver it gets me in a good mood. Since the day I started smoking pipes I loved these silver caps. Took me a couple of years to finally pull the trigger but I did earlier this year. I love the way it smokes.

That's a beautiful pipe! What is your favorite blend to smoke out of it?

I wonder how many pipemakers would feel qualified to take that kind of commission on. You might send out an RFP, see who responds.

Personally, I'm a stainless kinda guy but sterling sure has its appeal. It might be fun to take on a commission that incorporates an heirloom piece of jewelry into the pipe. Ring? Pin? Earring? Grandma's first piercing? It might be even more fun just to use vintage stuff you like and make up the stories to go along with them. I think you're on to something with the sterling caps but more than just their beauty, it gives you the opportunity to introduce a story about each pipe.
