I know the topic of drinking and smoking has come up before but this is not a question of "what do you drink" but rather what have you discovered does or does not go well together. I usually drink either a cup of coffee, iced tea or ice water. But earlier tonight I opened a pint of an ale I had sitting around and sipped while I smoked. The problem was, the favors were not melding well at all! I was smoking some PA and the favors mixing in my mouth brought out a pretty nasty bitterness that was not pleasant! I set the ale aside and finished my smoke first.

I also noticed a few nights ago that drinks with a milk base, in this case hit cocoa (I was out of coffee), leave a strange taste on my tongue after I smoke a burley blend. However, if I'm smoking an English or an aromatic, the hot cocoa goes well.

    Any one else?

I've found hot cocoa goes well with burley blends and Guinness goes with anything.

If i'm drinking while smoking it's going to be coffee or whisky. Other beverages seem to clash with the toby. Anything carbonated is right out!

Strong Coffee, Sippin' Whiskey, A nice Ale (Porter or Stout) or maybe even a glass of Dry Red Wine. Most of my smoking is done after work, on the porch accompanied by an adult beverage.

I found a nice cup of coffee works sometimes, other's it's a sip of scotch or whiskey. I am drawn in the summer to a nice cigar with a bit of quality tequilla.

Burley, Burley/Virginia blends always go good with a cup of coffee for me, when I'm enjoying a McClelland Bright Virginia, hot tea with or without a splash of lemon is the ticket, I find hot tea really enhances the citrus notes of Bright Virginias.

Less often mentioned but excellent with a stout tobacco like FVF is a cognac or port or other fortified spirit (brandy, sherry, etc).

In particular I find a dry sherry will enhance the nutty flavor of a burley. And a rich port will do well with a robust virginia.

Latakia blends with coffee. Virginia blends with thin lemonade. Burley with something sweet like iced tea. This is what I mostly prefer, but I don't assign drinks to blends on purpose when I smoke.

coffee with my pipe in the morning. In the evening a sip of 12 year Double wood Balvenie Scotch when i need a kick. Or simply a cup of decaffeinated tea of some sort.

I know that if there's alcohol in it, and I have a good amount of it...tobacco tastes better. Drink too much...don't taste the tobacco...or the alcohol.

Burley or VA with coffee is great.

    English with bourbon/scotch/beer

    but usually it's just water

I love to drink coffee with a latakia and a cup of tea or water with most others. Pepsi Max, however, works with everything.
