I notice I clean the end of my tamper right before I use it. It doesn’t make any sense whatsoever considering I’m sticking the thing into the bowl where it’s only going to get dirty. :shead:

    Do you have one?

I wouldn't suggest smoking ticks, I'd imagine they'd be outright nasty tastin'... but to each his own.

My tick is that I ream down to briar at least once every 3 months.

I too clean off the tamper with every use, in spite of the pointlessness of it.

ticks are full of blood, don't smoke them unless you're a cannibal or real pirate.

Ticks, ticks, ticks, I definately don't recomend smoking them, just sounds gross.

I christen every new pipe with W.O. Larsen's 1864, that and every pipe has it's place and it is NEVER out of that place unless I'm smoking it.

With my smooth pipes I tend to rub the bowls on my nose to keep them shiney.

I too have a problem with cleaning the tamper. I have other pipe smoking idiosyncrasies, but I'll not be the only one airing my dirty dottle.

I spin 3 times counterclockwise then twice clockwise before lighting my pipe. Otherwise the whole thing seems rather pointless.

I do the same thing. An old pipe maker gave me that tip back in the mid-1970's.

I actually seems to work and the briar readily absorbs the oils.

After finishing a bowl I'll dip in a saliva-moistened finger and rub the insides to ensure that the cake remains smooth. Preemptive reaming??
