    My Fellows,
what is the general feeling toward Stanwell pipes? They seem very good looking to me and the price suggests that they ae of high quality.
I first found them on a shopping site Stanwell Pipes
    What do you think?

When it comes to suggesting a quality first pipe to newer members, two names seem to come up time and again-Peterson and Stanwell.

There are lemons to be had from every factory pipe maker, but odds are you'll get a winner out of the gate with Stanwell. I say if you see one you like...take a chance.

Stanwell is well reputed, and you can oder with confidence from that site.

Just a reminder: check the return policy from the site where you purchase. If for some reason you don't like the pipe you may be able to return it--usually, once you smoke it, it's non-returnable/refundable.

I've got two of the featherweights now and love them both.

I have a Majestic that I absolutely love - very light for its size, and smokes very well! I wouldn't get rid of my Stanwell, & I am looking to add another to the pipe rack soon!

Stanwell is an excellent value. The pipe per dollar ratio is high, about 1.83 in international pipe units. For comparison, your average Dunhill is around .49 IPUs. :)

I have a Stanwell that smokes very nicely. It is a good piece of briar considering the price, too. I've had it for around twenty-five years now.

I have a couple of Brebbias... am happier with my Petes and Savinelli. Thinking of getting a Stanwell next...

Has anyone noticed any difference in quality since production moves to Italy some time ago?

The little I've heard seems to be that most pieces out for sale are still the older production. This is a hazy recollection, though. I would welcome an answer to this too.

Stanwell pipes are great, but the name is somewhat tacky. "Stanwell" is more suited to cheap pens like "Bic". Choose a more distinguished name like, "Old Grain" or something like that, but stay away from something like "Kaywoodie" or "Woody Wood Pecker".

A rose by any other name, smells just as sweet.

I could care less if a pipe's name is Swampheel or Blistergums, if it is a good smoker, or at least carries that reputation, I'm all for it. Now, if it looks like it was fished out of a toilet, I may reconsider.

Anyone know where I can see the different shapes of the pipes made by Stanwell?

If there is a bad Stannie I haven't heard about it.

I have one other featherweight and it's WAY better than the one I sold to Ruffinogold. :eek:hyeah:
