My wife's been smoking the same cob every day for a couple of weeks. Like most, I'm a fan of rotating pipes. So I kidnapped her go-to pipe and put it next to the one I smoked to take advantage of the hot sun. They got a good his & her's sun bath and breeze on a porch chair that should do good to dry them a bit. Does anyone else let their pipes dry outside once in a while?

One of the oldest tricks in the book to freshen cobs.

Ah, good to know! I read this somewhere about putting cobs outside to dry but I only came across the idea once. Usually known tips or practices seem to repeat themselves as I read at different places on the web and here at PSF. So I didn't know if this was just somebody's idea that wasn't really practiced. Now I know there's more to it. Thanks Doug.

I did this without much thought, on a whim. I think it will become standard practice now. Line em' up, dry em' out. In the winter the wood burning stove dries the room where I keep my pipes. But summer is a different story. The sun will come in handy. :puffy:

Just don't leave em on the dashboard of the car when it's real warm. The hole in the shank on mine got large enough that the stem isn't exactly snug anymore. I'm working on smoking her tight again though.

I guess that would result in producing little gentleman cobs in this case.

From what material is that "coat"? Why isn't to the top of the bowl?

It's polymer clay. It doesn't go to the top by preference, so that the cob still shows.

If I left mine outside, it would sweat like a you know what in church. I might be able to pull that off in January, but the other months, it's straight up moist here.

Small, small world! My brother lives in Humble, and is trying to get me to move there! I was there a few weeks ago, checking out the area, scouting properties.

The things you read about on the interwebs...
