Im fairly new to pipe smoking and was wondering what are some of the differences in the different types of tobacco? Iv only smoked aromatics but want to branch out. here is a list of the types that I have found out about so far.

Latakia: all iv gotten on this one is people tell me is smells like a campfire.

    English: nothing so far.

burly: nothing as well but sounds like it would be robust.

    Virginia: longer cut I think?

Well theres my in depth knowledge about the different kinds of tobacco....hahahah.

OH yea and some of my tastes are stout but not over powering with some flavor. and i also like dark stouts and amber ales to go along with my pipe smoke some nights as well.

Here is a Wikipedia Page on the types of tobacco.

Get some Carter Hall(Burley), Stokkabye Proper English (Latakia), Mac baren Virginia #1, Smokers Pride Black Cavendish.

Give them a try and see what you like. There are many more out there also.

One thing to point out is the distinction between a breed of tobacco (Burley, Virginia), a processing technique (Cavendish, Latakia), and a blend (a combination of one, two, or several of the above, such as English).
